Kaluza and Mitsubishi collaborate on Japanese smart EV charging service

Mitsubishi and energy software platform Kaluza have launched what they say is the first telematics-based smart charging service in Japan, following similar Kaluza deployments in North America, Europe and Australia.

Smart charging technology, which enables EVs to charge during times of low demand when energy is cheaper and greener, helps to alleviate network balancing issues. Kaluza says its software will connect with Mitsubishi’s Outlander PHEV model via telematics, eliminating the need for separate smart charging hardware and allowing vehicle owners to schedule charging through a mobile app. Product trials will begin this year.

“By turning electric vehicles into ‘batteries on wheels,’” remarked Neel Gulhar, Kaluza CMO, “countries can build smarter, greener energy systems, centered around the customer.”
