Mer, Hubject and Driivz to demonstrate Plug and Charge seamless EV charging system

EV charging operator Mer Germany, eRoaming provider Hubject, and energy management software provider Driivz are working together to implement Plug and Charge, and the three EV industry collaborators will demonstrate the technology at the upcoming Intercharge Network Conference (ICNC23) in Berlin.

Some public charging networks force users to deal with apps, logins, or even such anachronisms as RFID cards. Plug and Charge technology, which is based on the ISO 15118 standard, eliminates all that. When an EV driver plugs into a charge point, the EV identifies itself to the charging station, allowing for instant authorization and the initiation of charging. The communication includes data on the driver’s account with the EV charging service provider, allowing billing to take place automatically.

To enable Plug and Charge, all stakeholders in the EV charging ecosystem—EV and charger manufacturers, charge point operators and back-end software providers—must support ISO 15118.

“Demonstrating Plug and Charge to ICNC23 attendees shows that the vision of seamless charging for all EV drivers is now a reality,” says Anton Achatz, Director of Business Development and Product Management, Mer Germany.

“Over the past five years we have gathered invaluable expertise regarding ISO 15118 and Plug and Charge. The result is a solution that is actively driving the EV charging industry toward mass adoption by enabling that seamless and secure charging experience for EV drivers,” says Christian Hahn, CEO of Hubject.

“This will be the year of Plug and Charge,” says Doron Frenkel, founder and CEO of Driivz. “Numerous vehicles and chargers are planned to support this technology and we’ll see massive growth in Plug and Charge in nearly every country across the globe.”
