China-based battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) has launched its Shenxing PLUS LFP battery, which the company claims is the first to reach specific energy of 205 Wh/kg, capable of achieving a range of more than 621 miles on a full charge.
An EV equipped with the new battery system can deliver a range of 372.8 miles on 10 minutes of 4C charging, according to the company.
The Shenxing PLUS uses granular gradation cathode technology that positions nanometer particles to attain a higher compact density. It also incorporates CATL’s anode material with a 3D honeycomb structure designed to increase energy density and manage volume expansion across charge-discharge cycles for greater durability.
The battery’s single-piece casing maximizes utilization of internal space, and its optimized topological structure, along with module-free CTP 3.0 technology, increases packing efficiency by 7% according to the company. Other improvements include fast lithium-ion conductive coating, added transition metal elements, and expanded overcurrent area and capacity of the terminals to allow for rapid heat dissipation during high-current charging. CATL’s AI polarization model is capable of predicting and controlling the charging current in real time for faster, smarter energy replenishment.
