The recently concluded GENIAL! project coordinated by German semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies developed a joint electronics roadmap to optimize collaboration between automotive OEMs and their component and technology suppliers, to accelerate innovation.
The project was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), which provided 55% of the total €19.6 million budget, and by 11 industry and education partners.
The partners worked to develop concepts and methods to help companies in the automotive supply chain cooperate more effectively and prepare for the future.
“The prototypical automotive microelectronics roadmap developed in GENIAL! provides a strategic framework for identifying future market needs, use cases, system models and technical requirements in the field of automotive microelectronics,” Infineon stated.
The project was based on a model-based system development approach that uses the Systems Modeling Language (SysML). This approach is supported by the AGILA database and further enhanced by the Interactive Roadmapping of Innovative Systems (IRIS) tool, which were both developed within the project. AGILA is a centralized database for essential information and documentation. IRIS enables collaborative modeling, exploration, planning, and evaluation of alternatives. To encourage widespread adoption, the project participants will release the tools as open-source solutions.
