ABF Freight orders five more Orange EV electric terminal trucks

Orange EV, a manufacturer of Class 8 all-electric terminal trucks, has announced that ABF Freight, a less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier, has placed an order for five additional Orange EV terminal trucks.

ABF Freight received its first four terminal trucks from Orange EV in 2022, and currently has nine in its fleet. It will receive and deploy the five new trucks this year.

“Our investment in EVs aligns with our continuous efforts to enhance efficiency while maintaining exceptional service standards,” said ABF President Matthew Godfrey.

Orange EV has the highest number of deployed all-electric terminal trucks in the United States of any manufacturer, according to a February 2022 study by Calstart, a nonprofit consortium focused on increasing clean transportation.

Terminal trucks, which are also referred to as terminal tractors, as well as by several more colorful names including yard trucks, yard dogs, yard mules and, in the United Kingdom, terminal lorries, are semi-tractor vehicles designed to move semi-trailers within a warehouse facility, cargo yard or intermodal facility.
