CATL launches No Propogation 3.0 battery technology and Shenxing Pro battery in Europe


Chinese battery manufacturing giant CATL has launched its No Propogation 3.0 (NP3.0) technology platform, as well as the first lithium-iron-phosphate battery equipped with the technology, the Shenxing Pro.

CATL’s NP3.0 technology platform integrates eight core technologies: flame-retardant electrolyte, flame-retardant safety diaphragm, nano-dot-coated positive electrode material, battery cell safety device, aerogel insulation pad, fire-retardant spray coating, circuit stability control technology, high-voltage active cooling technology and system control strategy, forming the “safety iron triangle” of the power battery system, according to the company.

In extreme thermal runaway scenarios, NP3.0 quickly blocks the spread of heat between battery cells and ensures continuous high-voltage power delivery to the vehicle. It can maintain stable power output for over an hour, enabling safe vehicle departure and emergency evacuation. This technology also prevents flames and smoke from forming during thermal runaway, avoiding secondary accidents caused by obstructed vision.

The Shenxing Pro battery is equipped with NP3.0 and applies Wave cells and cell-to-body structure design.

CATL has released two versions of the Shenxing Pro—a long-life version and a supercharged version. The long-life version is well-suited for European consumers’ long-distance, cross-country travel needs and exhibits a degradation rate of around 9% after 200,000 km, according to the company.

The Shenxing Pro Supercharger battery is designed to meet the demand for rapid energy replenishment in northern Europe’s cold climate. It charges from 20% to 80% in 20 minutes in -20° C temperatures, CATL said.
