Navier’s new hybrid-electric hydrofoiling vessels support defense and commercial applications


Bay Area maritime technology company Navier has announced a new family of hybrid-electric hydrofoiling platforms developed under its Generalized Marine Vessel Platform (GMVP) framework.

The GMVP defines a common technological foundation that integrates hybrid-electric propulsion, active hydrofoil stabilization and a software-defined control and autonomy stack. Its modular architecture is designed to enable cross-domain deployment for both defense and commercial use.

As Navier explains, by lifting the hull above the waves, hydrofoils eliminate slamming, reduce drag, and maintain stability even in rough seas, allowing smaller, faster vessels to perform missions traditionally limited to larger vessels.

“Hydrofoiling platforms fundamentally change what’s possible in maritime operations,” said Sampriti Bhattacharyya, founder and CEO of Navier. “They combine the stability of large vessels, the agility of patrol craft, and the endurance of long-range ships.”

Navier has delivered ten units of its first electric vessel, the N30 Pioneer. The company is now executing contracts with Leidos and other defense contractors, and its technology is currently operational aboard US Navy vessels.

Navier’s Generalized Marine Vessel Platform family includes three variants, all of which share Navier’s hybrid-electric propulsion, flight-control architecture, modular payload integration and OTA software framework. All serve as base platforms that can be configured for various applications.

  • The Quanta is a 30-foot monohull optimized for tactical patrol and surveillance. It has a 2,000-nautical-mile foiling range and is designed for sea state 3.
  • The Valkyrie is an 80-foot catamaran designed for reconnaissance, logistics and special operations. It features a 3,000-NM foiling range, and is optimized for sea state 4.
  • The Morpheus is a 120-foot multi-hull platform that supports defense, humanitarian and transport operations in sea state 5.

The first of the new vessels is scheduled to make its maiden voyage in 2026.
