ComfortDelGro Australia (CDC) is partnering with fleet electrification company Zenobē to develop a large electric bus depot in the western suburbs of Melbourne.
CDC Victoria is working with Zenobē to convert its Truganina depot into a fully electrified bus facility. The project will support the introduction of zero-emission buses in Melbourne’s growing western corridor. When completed, the Truganina depot will have charging infrastructure capable of supporting more than 130 electric buses, with capacity for future expansion.
The partnership builds on an existing relationship between CDC’s sister company, Metroline, and Zenobē in the UK. Zenobē has supported the electrification of Metroline’s London bus fleet and has installed more than 450 charging points at five depots.
Zenobē worked with CDC to design the Truganina depot’s charging infrastructure, including power and charging models to determine the grid connection capacity needed for current and future operations. The company is also delivering the depot’s charging infrastructure. The work includes installing 65 dual-connector DC chargers, with provision for an additional 20 charging points, as well as associated civil and electrical works.
The Victorian Government has set a target of transitioning to a zero-emission public bus fleet by 2035.
“Electrifying a bus depot at this scale is not simply a charging project; it is an infrastructure and operational undertaking,” said Gareth Ridge, Country Director for Australia and New Zealand at Zenobē. “Truganina has been designed around how CDC’s fleet operates today and how it will grow over time, ensuring the power and charging infrastructure can support the transition to zero-emission buses. Zenobē has delivered similar infrastructure with Metroline in the UK, and we’re bringing that experience to Melbourne.”
