Pueblo, Colorado deploys off-grid, solar-powered EV charging systems

The City of Pueblo has installed solar-powered EV charging systems for use by the general public as well as the Pueblo Police Department, Parks and Recreation and the Fleet Department.

The systems are from Beam Global, a San Diego EV charging infrastructure and technology company.

Beam’s wireless, grid-independent EV ARC units, which generate and store electricity using solar power, are equipped with its BeamTrak system that follows the sun to produce up to 25% more energy than a fixed solar array.

The systems are financed through a rebate from the DOE’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program. Some will be available to the public free of charge through September 2024 as part of a city initiative, while others will support the city fleets, which expect to receive more vehicles in the coming months.

“EV ARC systems are an ideal charging infrastructure choice because they are not tied to the grid, which means they require no construction work, electric work or utility bill and therefore reduce cities’ overall costs. Because they are transportable, the systems can be relocated during emergencies or as public charging patterns emerge and change,” said Beam Global CEO Desmond Wheatley.
