Eaton’s eMobility unit has announced that it is selling power connectors for EVs and legacy vehicles.
Eaton says the high-power lock box (HPLB) connectors in eMobility’s Power Connections portfolio save space, cost less, and are easier to manufacture than competing products. Electrical connectivity components manufacturer Royal Power Solutions, which Eaton bought in 2022, created the HPLB connectors. These connector locks use an “inside-out” contact system and are fully sealed, reducing heat radiation and protecting against corrosion and extreme vibration. They meet USCAR Safety Performance Requirements for component service life. Moreover, the HPLB connectors can be installed by a “pick-and-place” robot for precise and safe connections. They lie flush, unlike standard connection terminals, saving vehicle space.
“We’ve designed our HPLB terminal system for high-current and high-temperature applications, up to 500 amps and 125 degrees Celsius, respectively,” said Chris Mancuso, GM Power Connections at Eaton. “Our HPLB terminal connectors not only lower temperature but provide extra current-carrying capacity.”
