The California Energy Commission (CEC) has approved a $1.4 billion, four-year Clean Transportation Program investment plan to accelerate deployment across the state of EV charging and hydrogen refueling infrastructure for light-, medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.
At least 50% of the funding will be targeted to benefit priority populations. The funds will be distributed through competitive grants to projects that include direct incentive and rebate programs for businesses, nonprofit organizations, tribes and public agencies.
The new funding is part of the $48-billion California Climate Commitment that includes more than $10 billion for zero-emission vehicles and infrastructure. It is expected to add nearly 17,000 light-duty chargers to the more than 152,000 public and shared private chargers that are currently installed.
“Today’s approval of the investment plan reaffirms California’s commitment to funding zero-emission refueling infrastructure,” said Patty Monahan, CEC’s Lead Commissioner for Transportation. “The plan prioritizes clean air benefits in low-income and disadvantaged communities that need it the most.”
